Rolex Daytona

In 1963 the Daytona was launched, the model that put Rolex on the watch business map. (as we can see it now). For a very long time the Daytona was the most expensive steel watch, and produced and sold in very small quantities. Until 1989 with plexiglas (also the digit models like the 6263, 6239, 6241 etc). The first versions used the Valjoux 72 movement and from 1989 Rolex used the Zenith El Primero movement in the Daytona (adapted until the caliber 4030). These Zeniths also had sapphire glasses and the case was a bit larger. In 2000 the 116520 was introduced, for the first this with its own movement; the caliber 4130. Until this day the Daytona is the only steel watch that costs more outside the shop then inside. In October 2017 Paul Newmans Paul Newman-Daytona was auctioned for €15.500.000, the worlds most expensive watch ever. Here are some Daytona watches that SUBGMT has sold in the last 10 years. When there is a price with a watch in this section, it is still for sale!
